The importance of offering single sign-on for edtech apps has never been more clear. With so many students accessing learning applications and services from school and from home, single sign-on is now a critical solution. SchoolTube uses the Edlink platform to enable single sign-on – also known as SSO – through different learning management systems. Edlink helps organizations like SchoolTube integrate their applications with LMSs and other data sources. With the help of Edlink, SchoolTube supports SSO through Google Classroom, Schoology, Microsoft Teams, Canvas, Blackboard, and Clever.
Below, I discuss some of the benefits of enabling single sign-on through your LMS.
Easy User Onboarding
When you integrate your LMS or data source with SchoolTube, you reduce many of the headaches that usually come up setting up accounts for teachers and students. When you connect your LMS or data source to SchoolTube, Edlink automatically generates accounts for all of your students and teachers. There’s no hassle with creating accounts and passwords for users. Once the connection is made, students and teachers can start logging in almost immediately.
Better Account Management
When teachers are trying to onboard their students onto a new application, there’s always a learning curve for both the teacher and the class. Users can also forget their usernames and passwords when they try to log into a new platform. With SSO, students and teachers are directed to the familiar login page of their LMS, or are automatically authenticated if they are already signed into their LMS. SSO reduces one more layer of complexity for users.
Enhanced Functionality
Through SSO, SchoolTube can identify users based on which school or district they are a part of. SchoolTube’s ad-free service relies on this information when identifying which users should have access to the ad-free service. Connecting an LMS to provide SSO is the simplest way to enable this feature.
How to Enable Single Sign-On with SchoolTube
The first step to enabling SSO is to register your school or district with SchoolTube and request single-sign-on. Once you’re registered, you can follow these links that contain instructions on how to connect your LMS or data source to SchoolTube via Edlink: Canvas by Instructure, G Suite for Education, Microsoft Office 365 Education, Schoology, Blackboard, Clever. Each LMS integrates differently, so you should review the steps for your respective platform.
